Amy Ekelman
At the age of 10, after having attended a summer camp with horseback riding, Amy fell in love with horses. She convinced her mother to let her take weekly Hunter/Jumper lessons at Knoll Farm in Brentwood, NY. By the age of 12, weekly lessons weren't enough. So she convinced her mother and the manager of the farm to let her work weekends, holidays and school vacations so she could learn more about horses and their care, and so she could ride at the end of each shift. Amy would spend her lunch time watching others teach or ride and quickly realized her dream job would have to involve horses.
After taking a break from riding to have her family, Amy returned to riding recreationally. Opportunities to begin training in basic dressage came and she quickly realized how dressage training improved her jumping as well. Over the years, horses have always been a part of her life, either recreationally or professionally.
Moving to Kentucky in 2015, afforded the opportunity to explore eventing. What a glorious discipline to include all of her favorite things about riding! New goals in the discipline of Dressage have Amy enjoying riding as much as that 10 year old all of those years ago and have also expanded her teaching abilities for her students... After all, if it isn't for the joy and love of horses, what's the point???
